Alpha Precision,Inc. is
located in Comer, GA. The well-equipped shop occupies 2500 square feet and includes: metal lathes, horizontal and verticle mills, drill presses, oxyacetylene and TIG welding, heat treat furnace, sand blaster, grinders, polishers, Rockwell hardness tester, Oehler chronograph, Ransom machine rest, and wide variety of hand tools, fixtures, and
gauges unique to the trade.
Alpha Precision employs one person, a pistolsmith: Jim Stroh.
Jim graduated from the University of Detroit in 1961 with a BS in chemistry and graduate studies in chemistry and metallurgy. He started amateur gunsmithing in the late '50's and has been a full-time professional since 1981. He is an NRA Life Member, an NRA Custom Handgun instructor (classes cover the 1911 auto and single action revolvers), an officer in the American Pistolsmiths Guild, and a member of American Handgunner Club 100. He was voted 1996 Pistolsmith of the Year.
Specializing in handguns, Jim customizes Ruger single actions making five and six shot cylinders in calibers through .475 using the line-bore chambering method. He customizes Browning and Walther autoloaders and offers very extensive modifications on the 1911. He customizes S&W and Ruger double action revolvers: action work and rebarreling. He uses advanced accurizing methods on revolvers which include Taylor Throating. Many Georgia deer hunters are using revolvers customized by Jim. Cowboy Action shooters (and hunters as well) are finding his hammer loading notch a real improvement on New Model Ruger Single Actions. He also works on 1873 pattern Colt SAA. Fine welding is a specialty.
Packages of various services are offered to provided the greatest value with specific objectives in mind: accuracy, reliability, or appearance for example. If you do not want everything in a package, components can be deleted or added. Or you can simply pick and choose from the 200-plus services he offers. All work is guaranteed.
